I BELIEVE there is still much more to come from Worcester Wolves as the season builds towards its finale.

Despite the 148-141 aggregate defeat to Leicester Riders in the British Basketball League Trophy semi-finals last weekend, the club is heading in the right direction.

Yes, we’re all disappointed about not getting through to the final but there are nine games to go in the league and we want to finish off strongly.

Hopefully we can build on that experience and look forward to the rest of the league campaign moving into the play-offs.

People are now starting to take note of what we’re doing as a team so there are a lot of positives to be taken from the two games.

We want to keep playing well with tough defence and if we can get a couple more guys to replicate Alex Owumi offensively, after he scored 58 points across both Leicester games, then we will be very tough to beat.

Some players didn’t have their best offensive games in the semi-finals.

I thought defensively we were excellent over the two legs but offensively we just needed one other player to step up and have a big game and that unfortunately didn’t happen.

When you look back at the statistics and the amount of free throws we missed, we only shot 54 per cent on the Friday and not much more on Saturday.

We are not going to beat good teams by shooting that poorly from the free-throw line. We missed another 11 at their place on Saturday and for us to beat those good teams we have to be shooting 75 per cent plus from the free-throw line.

That said, I was delighted with how well we competed against the Riders and we gave as good as we got, which they didn’t like too much.

In the two previous meetings we really didn’t compete with them on any level and let them dominate us as if we were almost too afraid to play against them. That wasn’t the case this time around.

Progress is being made and we still haven’t played as a fully-fit team yet this year.

Sherrad Prezzie-Blue was only 70 per cent of what he could be against Leicester although he did a good job in the second leg.

He won’t be 100 per cent fit for tomorrow’s home match against London Lions (7.30 pm) or Sunday’s trip to Cheshire Phoenix (5.30pm) but we’ll nurse him through.

He will be better this weekend than he was last weekend and hopefully, going into the play-offs, he’ll be nearer to full strength.

We’ll manage him through the next nine games and get him ready for the play-offs.

If we can get everybody fit and healthy going into those matches, we have nobody to fear.
