DESPITE three defeats in five days for Worcester Wolves, I am still positive moving forward with the squad we have and what we might be able to achieve in the play-offs.

However, that doesn’t mean I’m happy with the current situation because I am concerned by our form at the moment.

I have been disappointed at losing to Newcastle Eagles (102-87), Manchester Giants (91-82) and Sheffield Sharks (78-73) because I feel, before those three games, we had been in fantastic form and were the hottest team in the league.

But, having won eight games in a row, we had a break because of the British Universities and Colleges Sport Championship and we have struggled since we’ve come back. There hasn’t been that winning effort out on the floor.

Training has been a bit erratic becaue of the availability of the university’s sports hall but the fact remains that we have gone out there and played without that effort.

Previously, I didn’t have to worry about the effort, whether the team played well or badly, but now it is not there and, to make matters worse we are not shooting the ball well either.

We had been averaging around 10 three-pointers a game but in the last three matches we have hit about nine in total. We have also been tentative defensively so that’s compounding everything.

It’s difficult to take at the moment because we have got such a talented team but that talent alone is not enough.

Although we are down to sixth in the British Basketball League table, my concern wasn’t about whether we finished third, fourth, fifth or sxith, it was about playing well and right now we are not doing that.

We have got to change things around and go back to the drawing board to get it into the players that they have to show up and play; teams won’t roll over for us.

I will look at combinations of players and if that means I have to play the same five to win games because they are all hungry to win then that’s what I’ll do.

I can understand the BUCS players being tired, like Stan Ocitti, Sherrad Prezzie-Blue and Carlos Fernandez, but some players need to buck up their ideas.

That said, I can’t fault Alex Owumi. He wants to win and is the most disappointed when we lose a game. Alex always goes that extra mile every game, although some of the others do as well.

We need to get through this weekend against Plymouth Raiders tomorrow (7.30pm) and Glasgow Rocks on Easter Sunday (5pm) and then regroup.

The Plymouth match is another opportunity to get back on the winning trail and hopefully everybody will have their ‘A’ game to get that win.

It’s a long trip to Glasgow but it’s on television so the players won’t need any motivation as they won’t want to be embarrassed on TV.
