HAVING won our first five British Basketball League games and defeated Leicester Riders, who are the defending champions, it shows the progress we have made at Worcester Wolves.

In coming through a couple of over-time games as well, we have also shown a lot of character in what we’ve done this season.

It’s fantastic for the club and it shows a lot of determination.

We’ve got some really tough games coming up, starting at Newcastle Eagles tomorrow (7.30pm) but winning is a habit, the spirit and confidence in the camp is high.

We are just going to take one game at a time, as they say, and try and do the best we can.

Our start hasn’t surprised me because we had a really good pre-season and that was key.

We have had to make one change, bringing in Andreas Schreiber, and I think that has been a change for the better.

We have brought in some quality players purposefully and we might have one win more than we expected to have but I think we are there or thereabouts as a team now.

Victories against Manchester Giants, 88-66 in the BBL Cup last Friday, and 100-59 at Birmingham Knights in the championship also gave me opportunity to get some of the bench players extended court time, such as Calvin Morant-Hudson, Harry Turner and Daniel Belgrave.

It was a good game against Manchester, we didn’t want to let our guard down and be out a competition, so I thought we applied ourselves very well, especially defensively.

The victory over Birmingham last Sunday was quite comprehensive and the starting five only played a maximum of 20 minutes each as a result.

We have got some squad players who are showing some great potential this year and training sessions have been excellent and intense with nobody giving a quarter to anybody else.

We are training the way we want to play so I’ve been delighted with the application of the players and they way they have conducted themselves.

The bench players are putting pressure on the first five with one or two finding their feet, gaining confidence and challenging the starting five and that’s what I want to see.

I want competition in every position and if I can have that I am going to have the confidence in those players knowing that I can rotate personnel and there will be very little difference in quality.
