RETURNING to winning ways was a massive boost for Worcester Wolves and hopefully we are now over our mini blip.

After losing to Plymouth Raiders in the league and Leicester Riders in the cup, we lost at Sheffield Sharks last Friday before finally recording a victory at Glasgow Rocks 48 hours later.

It was vital to get some points out of the weekend even though I knew it was always going to be tough with two away games.

I was really disappointed with our performance against Sheffield because we didn’t play as a team, which was the reason we had won seven straight games earlier in the campaign.

I felt we were a bit passive and didn’t share the ball whatsoever and it was a painful game to watch.

We went through the whole game on video the next day, which was hard watching for the players but it had its effect because we went to Glasgow and played really well — as a team.

It was a vital victory for us to turn that corner.

Kalil Irving came back a week earlier than I would have liked him to because of a knee injury but it did the trick with 11 points and six rebounds in 19 minutes. That made a big difference to us.

A few home truths just needed to be said after Sheffield but the players took it on the chin and came back, got the ball to the right people in the right place and became a good team again.

We won seven in a row for a reason and we beat some tough teams in Newcastle and Leicester along the way.

The message has been that we are very strong when we play as a team and we are the only people who can beat ourselves.

In the league and cup games we lost, we beat ourselves because we didn’t play the tough defence that we had been and didn’t share the ball offensively or execute any of our plays.

That’s down to us, it wasn’t down to the opposition but they’ve made the most of that opportunity.

All that said, though, I am still delighted to be third in the table.

We want to be right up there to the bitter end and give ourselves an opportunity try to and win this league.

There are still a lot more games to be played and Leicester, Newcastle and Sheffield have got to play each other so somebody has to lose them.

We are in a really good position right now and we need to realise that.
