TO be sitting top of the British Basketball League with almost a third of the season gone is fantastic.

It is vital now that we stay strong mentally, as well as fit and healthy, and keep knocking off the wins to see how far it can take Worcester Wolves.

We had a fantastic start to the season but we had that little blip where we maybe started to believe our own press and not play so much together.

But apart from the two losses against Plymouth and Sheffield, which were cringeworthy to look back at, I think we’ve done a great job.

The guys have been focused in training and worked very hard with the strength and conditioning trainers, nutritionists and mental skills coach. They all form part of the team and it’s all come together really well.

I have to make sure that the likes of Alex Owumi, Zaire Taylor and Will Creekmore keep their feet on the floor, while Andreas Schreiber, Stefan Djukic, Jamal Williams, Kalil Irving and Daniel Belgrave, also have a role to play. They will ultimately make the difference as to whether we are successful or not.

Winning at Leicester Riders last Saturday was a massive game for us because, as well as beating them on their home court, where they hadn’t lost for 20 months, it gave us the head-to-head over them.

I don’t think we have ever feared sides like Leicester and Newcastle Eagles, who we visit tomorrow (7.30pm), it was just having the experience and the players who didn’t believe the hype around those teams.

It’s practically a brand new team this year and they don’t know about Leicester or Newcastle, they don’t really care who we’re playing which is a good way to be.

Mentally, we’re really tough and the majority of the time we are playing the way we want to play and it’s been good for us so far.

It would have been nice to have played Surrey United last Friday, which was postponed due to our opponents being stuck in traffic.

Although we weren’t going to play our starters any more than 15 minutes, it was disappointing that we had so many people in to watch the game and they weren’t able to see what we can do.

From the team’s point of view, however, they didn’t have to exert too much energy and were able to prepare better for Leicester.

Some of the frustration of not playing the night before came out in the Leicester game.
