SOMEONE said to me after we beat Durham Wildcats that this has been the best start to a season Worcester Wolves have ever had.
When I heard that I was delighted because we have been playing really well this season, but we want to keep our momentum going.
Before our game at Mersey Tigers last night, we had only lost one of our eight games, winning the last six.
We played Tigers last Friday too in the quarter-final of the British Basketball League Cup and, although slightly off in the first-half, we were much better in the second period.
The 91-62 victory also created more history for Wolves as we are now in our first semi-final.
That game will be against a team we know well this season — Plymouth Raiders.
The tie will be played over two legs but we have already played them twice in the BBL Trophy with both teams winning the away games.
We also face them tonight in the league at the University of Worcester.
Although I think Plymouth shade us when they field their strongest starting five, I do feel we have more depth to our squad.
We have a balanced squad at Wolves where, on any given night, players will step up to the plate.
A few weeks ago at Glasgow Rocks in our BBL opener, Tommy Freeman did not score a point but Callum Jones chipped in with 16.
Alex Zimnickas has also impressed recently so we know if someone does have an off-day, there are players who can come in and do a job.
The only time I can say we haven’t performed this season was the home match against Plymouth. It was our worst game of the campaign so far.
But we were still getting in shooting positions so I knew we would get better and haven’t we just!
We came through a tricky weekend after our narrow 65-64 win over a good Durham side.
Although it is still early in the season, from what I have seen so far, I do believe we have the ability and the players for Wolves to finish in the top half of the table.
We are competitive throughout and have good, experienced players together with talented youngsters.
I know I said at the start of the season I just wanted us to be competitive because we were a new team but, given what we have done so far, finishing in the top half is something I know we can achieve.
