THIS weekend is important for Worcester Wolves with two British Basketball League games in the space of less than 24 hours.
Tonight we host Mersey Tigers at the University of Worcester (7.00) before heading to Guildford Heat tomorrow afternoon.
We are looking to come out of these games with maximum points to continue our good start to the season.
We had a tremendous start to the campaign, the best the club has had in the BBL, so we are not too disappointed after defeats against Sheffield Sharks last Friday and Milton Keynes Lions on Tuesday.
Against the Sharks, a game we lost 76-75, we had an opportunity to put the match beyond them and didn’t take it.
It wasn’t a good performance against the Lions — we lost 99-82.
We didn’t perform as well as we have of late. I don’t know if the Sky Sports cameras filming the game live had an effect on the team but we are looking to put things right.
There have been a couple of team meetings this week and everybody was very disappointed with the performance against Lions, it was not indicative of our season so far.
But it doesn’t make us a bad team and I am sure we will bounce back.
It will be great to be back at home in front of our home crowd tonight but we are going to have to play well against the Tigers even though we have beaten them twice already this season.
They will have seen us on Sky and have some idea of how to beat us.
Then we go to my old club Guildford tomorrow for a game that will be recorded by Sky and shown in full on Tuesday night.
Guildford have made a few changes so will be a totally different team.
We are going into that game a bit blind but we do know four of their players well.
Forward Arnas Kazlauskas has a back problem and may not be risked for both games but otherwise we are at full strength.
We are also no strangers to playing back-to-back games and just want to get back to playing with the intensity that we did at the start of the season to ensure a couple of wins this weekend.
Talking of Sky Sports, it is fantastic for the club, and the BBL, to be on television.
Hopefully, that will allow clubs to increase marketing and sponsorship so it’s a tremendous opportunity for all, not just ourselves.
