WORCESTER Wolves maintained their unbeaten record in the British Basketball League after triumphing 97-79 at Mersey Tigers.
Despite the final margin of victory, it was only in the later stages of the game that Wolves were able to finally pull clear of their opponents.
Mersey were the first team to score, from a Kris Douse lay-up, but this was to be their only lead in the game.
A few seconds later Wolves shooting guard Tommy Free-man hit the first of his five three-pointers of the night, followed by a smooth shot from Richie Gordon, taking Wolves ahead at 5-2.
Going into the second quarter with a 21-15 advantage, further Wolves scores forced Tigers coach Tony Garbelot-to to call a time-out with his side trailing 17-27 Intense defence from the Wolves held Tigers scoreless for the last four minutes of the half, and five late points from Sherrad Prezzie-Blue re-established a 37-28 cushion for the visitors.
The barrage of deadly Wolves outside shooting continued in the early part of the last period and Wolves ad-vantage peaked at 85-56.
A late flurry of baskets from Tigers gave some re-spectability to the scoreline.
