SCRUM-HALF Jean-Baptiste Bruzulier says he’s ready to roll up his sleeves and compete for a starting place in Worcester Warriors’ Greene King IPA Championship squad.

The 22-year-old will be making his first-team debut tomorrow (3pm) in Warriors’ British and Irish Cup clash against Nottingham at Meadow Lane.

Bruzulier, who arrived at Sixways in the summer, is behind Charlie Mulchrone and Jonny Arr in the pecking order for the number nine jersey.

But he said: “I have not been in the first team yet but am able to work harder and push to try to get a starting spot.

“When I first met Dean Ryan, I knew Jonny Arr, Charlie Mulchrone and George de Cothi were here and it would make for good competition for places.

“I always realised it would be difficult to get to the front of the queue. We have a good bunch of boys but, hopefully, when I get my time, I can take my shot.”

Bruzulier, whose mother is Welsh and father is French, grew up in Cardiff and attended the same school as Welsh skipper Sam Warburton.

He played age-group rugby for Wales and represented the nation in sevens as well as turning out in rugby league for the nation’s under 18s as a prop.

“I don’t really know why they put me at prop because I was out of position,” he said.

Bruzulier, who is known around the club as JB, had been playing rugby in France with Le Parc.

“I was going to sign for a French team but I wanted a change,” he said.

“I wanted to be involved in a team with confidence and a club moving forward with a project.

“I had a meeting with Dean Ryan and it just felt right for me to sign. I need to progress and want to get better.”

The scrum-half has captained Worcester Cavaliers in their excellent start which has yielded four successive wins in the Aviva ‘A’ League. They defeated Sale Jets 27-22 on Monday.

Head coach Carl Hogg said: “He has done extraordinarily well over the last three or four games. The way in which the team came from behind to beat Sale was a credit to JB and the players.”
