HEAD coach Carl Hogg says he has been impressed with the way Worcester Warriors have adapted to different situations in the British and Irish Cup.

Warriors head into today’s final Pool Three home clash against Nottingham (2pm) knowing a win will guarantee them a quarter-final at Sixways.

Victory would also be their sixth in a row in the competition, which has been used by Warriors to give valuable experience to many of the ‘A’ League players.

They have also recorded two victories over Moseley and Munster ‘A’, including last Friday’s 23-18 triumph in Cork, to go with their 26-19 success at Nottingham in October.

In Hogg’s eyes, each has presented a different challenge and he believes Warriors have adjusted their approach to suit.

“Going to Munster is a different challenge to playing Nottingham or Moseley,” he explained. “I have been very impressed with the way the group have found a way in every individual game to win the contest.

“That ability to find a way to win is really key. Winning is a habit and to keep winning in different environments has been great.

“When the outcome is in doubt, that’s when you want your players to step up and show that extra endeavour.

“That’s when you only really find out about players, when the contest is the balance. It definitely was in the balance last Friday and you saw the character of individuals.

“Our level of collision and line speed was excellent and probably the last time we saw that was against Bristol.

“The key challenge for us is to create that intensity regardless of the opposition. That’s an internal challenge and standard we need to set ourselves.”

He added: “Nottingham play with width and ambition, yet ironically when we went up there they drove us to death in the first half up there and it wasn’t until after half time that we were able to rectify that.

“They are able to play the game in different ways. We will have to be on our mettle.”
