SAM Betty may just have returned from a sojourn to Barbados but, now he is back on cooler ground at Sixways, the Worcester Warriors man insists his side are fully focused on a return to the sunny climes of the Aviva Premiership.

Warriors sit top of the Greene King IPA Championship by a single point with five fixtures remaining and on a run of 16 consecutive league victories.

But while those statistics tell the tale of a successful season that surely needs no intervals, flanker Betty claims his sunshine break was well received by Dean Ryan’s men.

“It is really good to get some time away from rugby to be honest,” the 28-year-old flanker said.

“I got across to Barbados with a couple of the lads so that was a good thing to do, it’s nice to escape and have a bit of a chill.

“Breaks like that freshen you up mentally and physically, which is important as we prepare for a big few months on the run-in.

“You come back feeling recovered, refreshed and in good condition, so now it is nice to be back.

“We are happy with how we have been playing so far this season, we feel we have been improving as we’ve gone along.

“The campaign is going pretty well for us, confidence is high and everyone at the club is in a good position.

“The saying goes that winning is a habit and we have been in that habit recently. We need to try and keep that winning momentum, and we will take each game as it comes.”

Betty has crossed the whitewash 14 times this season and has been one of Worcester’s stand-out performers.

Formed in 2009, the Greene King IPA Championship is the second tier of professional rugby union in England.
