FANS are hoping livewire South African scrum-half Francois Hougaard could be about to extend his contract at Worcester Warriors.

The high-profile Hougaard told his 171,000 Twitter followers this morning he will be putting pen to paper today with an announcement being made shortly.

Warriors supporters are keeping their fingers crossed the stand-out number nine is agreeing a new deal at Sixways.

Hougaard has made a huge impact at Worcester since arriving last month, picking up two man of the match honours in three games.

And he is big friends with  centre Wynand Olivier and flanker Dewald Potgieter - both fellow South African internationals - who have committed their own futures to Worcester.

The 27-year-old Springbok star initially signed a short-term deal until the end of the season.

His arrival immediately helped Warriors end a 13-match losing streak.

They have now won two of their last three to climb to 10th in the Aviva Premiership table and host Gloucester on Saturday (2pm).

Hougaard has enjoyed a successful spell with South Africa’s Sevens team as he helped them to the top of the HSBC World Sevens Series.

The half-back first burst on to the international stage for the Springboks in 2009 before featuring at the 2011 Rugby World Cup, and has gone on to make 35 appearances which includes five tries.

Hougaard’s club career began at Western Province before moving to Pretoria to play for Super Rugby side the Blue Bulls, helping them to back-to-back Super Rugby titles in 2009 and 2010, Currie Cup in 2009 and Vodacom Cup in 2008 and 2010.
