POWERFUL centre Ben Te’o will arrive at Worcester Warriors “hungry” and with plenty to prove after his “disappointment” with England in Australia this summer.

The 29-year-old is enjoying a four-week break after the rigours of England duty and a successful campaign in the Guinness Pro 12 with Irish outfit Leinster.

Te'o was fast-tracked into England's squad for their three-Test series against Australia but did not feature as Eddie Jones’ men sealed an historic 3-0 series whitewash.

Te’o was labelled as a “superstar” by Warriors’ former director of Dean Ryan, who quit Sixways unexpectedly at the end of last month.

And head coach Carl Hogg believes the Auckland-born centre will be determined to make his mark at Warriors in his debut Aviva Premiership campaign.

“We have most of the players back now and we are now waiting for Ben Te’o who was away with England in Australia but the majority of the group are back in,” said Hogg.

“For Ben, getting the opportunity to go to Australia and be involved in the England set-up was a huge lift for him having played his rugby in Leinster.

“I am sure he is a little bit frustrated and disappointed that he didn’t get some game-time but then it means he will come back even more hungry to prove points with us.”

Te’o ended his Leinster career with a defeat to Connacht in the Pro 12 final.

He played at Sixways in March 2015 when Warriors defeated Leinster A to book their place in the British and Irish Cup final.

A former rugby league player, Te’o enjoyed a fine career with the Australian sides Wests Tigers, Brisbane Broncos and the Rabbitohs.

Te’o represented Samoa in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup, scoring twice in his sole appearance against France, while he also featured seven times for Queensland in the Australian State of Origin series.

Hogg said: “Ben has still got another couple of weeks off due to all of Leinster’s fixtures and the summer tour with England. He gets a four-week break before coming back to be involved with us.

“He’s a fantastic player and has been highly successful in rugby league and also hugely influential at Leinster last season.”

Te’o will get a baptism of fire in English rugby’s top tier because Warriors begin their Premiership season against European Championships Saracens at Twickenham on Saturday, September 3 (2pm).

Hogg added: “Ben gives us a real physical element in midfield and real power in our backline and he’s also got the skill-set to match. He will be a huge bonus for us in the new season.”
