TEENAGE Worcester Warriors back Jamie Shillcock says he’s “not too fussed” which shirt he wears – as long as he’s picked for the team.

The 19-year-old has played twice at full-back in the Aviva Premiership, scoring a brace of tries in an outstanding display in last Saturday’s 34-34 draw against Sale Sharks.

And the former Warwick School pupil said he now hoped to become a “consistent Premiership player” with his “main ambition” to achieve full honours with England.

“It was good experience again but it was a shame we didn’t get the win and we couldn’t close it out against Sale,” said Shillcock.

“But full credit to Sale – they did well and dug in and managed to get the draw but we need to win our home games.”

With injuries to Chris Pennell (neck) and Ben Howard (ankle), Coventry-born Shillcock made his top-tier debut at full-back in Warriors’ 37-22 defeat at Bath.

“I am not too fussed where I play – I just want to be involved on the pitch,” he said.

“I am comfortable at full-back, at nine and at 10 and wherever they need me to step in I will play.

“I was being geared towards playing at fly-half last year where I felt more comfortable and where I played towards the end of my school days.

“But this year there has been a move for me to try to play in multiple positions and try to be good at either scrum-half, full-back or at 10.”

“I had previously only started at full back in a development match with Bristol but I feel it’s a role I can grow into every time I play in it.”

Shillcock is in the second year at Warriors’ academy but was plucked from school amid a crisis to slot in at scrum-half for the club’s Championship play-offs towards the end of the 2014/15 season.

Experienced fly-half Ryan Lamb has since taken the teenager under his wing.

“Lamby (Ryan Lamb) has always been pretty encouraging towards me and given me little tips and tactics,” said Shillcock.

“He helps me to develop my game and I would like to think he might have taken a couple of things from me, too.”

Shillcock played three times for England Under 20s last season and admits he also looks up to Coventry-born duo Shane Geraghty and Andy Goode.

“I am trying to be as successful as they are and I want to be a continuous and consistent Premiership player with Warriors and getting an England call-up one day is the main dream.”

However, Shillcock’s main focus is on Warriors’ big challenge against Newcastle Falcons at Sixways on Sunday (3pm).

“Just a win would be brilliant against Newcastle," he said.

"We just need to get a win under our belts and hopefully those wins will keep coming from there.”
