A RESURGENT Worcester Valkyries team produced a dominant display to beat Saracens 19-5 at Allianz Park in the Women's Premiership.

Touchdowns from Bianca Blackburn and Zoe Bennion, accompanied by a penalty try, secured a much-needed victory.

Although Geri Thomas scored a consolation effort late on, third-placed Sarries could not stop Worcester claiming their second win of the season.

Valkyries gave debuts to three players with Welsh internationals Dyddgu Hywel and Shona Powell-Hughes starting and England's Heather Fisher making her return for the club from the bench.

They came close early on when Powell-Hughes crashed through on the 22 but nothing came of the early chance.

However, just minutes later, Valkyries scored a brilliant team try when Hywel passed to Bennion before scrum-half Blackburn dived over the whitewash.

With Rosie Haigh and Lyndsay O'Donnell winning line-outs and the pack playing their part in the scrum, Valkyries made life difficult for the hosts.

Powell-Hughes impressed during a tough first half with several hard-hitting runs and brutal hand-offs.

Valkyries were quick out of the blocks in the second period and won a penalty try after several infringements at the scrum.

Megan Goddard added the extras to extend the lead to 12-0.

Worcester bagged a quick third try to all but seal the points with Bennion finally going over after a successful driving line-out before Goddard converted.

Fisher showed her class to strengthen Valkyries' defensive line in the latter stages.  They almost got another score when Ceri Large and Blackburn combined.

Sarries held out and Thomas dived over for the Londoners.

Fifth-placed Valkyries looked for a bonus-point try but had to settle for the four points.

Debutant Hywel showed her strength and speed to give director of rugby Donna Kennedy a selection headache after a player-of-the-match performance.

Valkyries face Darlington Mowden Park Sharks at Sixways on Sunday (2pm).
