EXPERIENCED centre Wynand Olivier says it would be “nice” to wear the South African jersey again but admits the prospect is “highly unlikely”.

The 33-year-old Worcester Warriors ace hasn’t given up hope of adding to his 38 Test caps for the Springboks but believes the opportunity has gone.

Olivier was part of the Springboks’ World Cup-winning squad in 2007 and last featured for his country against Wales in Cardiff in June 2014.

“I think it’s any rugby player’s dream to play for their country,” said Olivier.

“Even if you have got 50 to 100 Test matches to say ‘no’ to the jersey or step away from it is not an easy thing to do.

“You always think you have still got that little bit to give and it’s the same thing for me.

“I would always love to put on the jersey again.

“I am getting to the age which makes it a little bit more difficult now because there’s no future.

“I might play for another year or maybe another two years at international level.

“It would be nice but I think it’s highly unlikely at this stage.”

Olivier has scored three times in nine Aviva Premiership appearances this term, including a second-half touchdown in Warriors’ 57-22 battering by Exeter Chiefs last Saturday.

He scored three tries in 18 appearances in his maiden campaign for Worcester and is “busy in talks” over a new contract with the club.

Olivier was instrumental in the South Africa-based Blue Bulls side from 2005 to 2013, where he tasted Super Rugby and Currie Cup success.

He then moved to France for two seasons with Montpellier, making 38 appearances and featuring alongside Warriors prop Na’ama Leleimalefaga.

“I spoke to a couple of the Springboks before and after the England game," he said.

“They have had loads of ups and downs and challenges and England went through a similar thing after the World Cup.

"South Africa are in a building phase.

“I am putting all my energy and efforts into Worcester and trying to mould Worcester into what it can become."
