SOUTH African coach Gary Gold has had “some conversations” over his future at Worcester Warriors.

The 49-year-old has galvanised Warriors since his arrival as director of rugby at the end of January.

Gold is initially contracted to Warriors until the end of the season but the board are keen for him to remain at the Sixways helm.

“We are in talks and we’ve had some conversations and we are closer,” said Gold, who has guided Warriors to two wins from four Premiership matches.

“I suppose my focus now is to see whether we can get closer to carrying out my first job which was to come in and help Warriors stay in the Premiership.

“That was my first job and that hasn’t been done yet. But we are closer to finding out what is going to happen next year.”

The former Newcastle Falcons and Bath chief is also delighted Warriors have secured the services of USA hooker Joe Taufete’e until the end of next season.

“We’ve been working on a couple of deals and quite a few of them haven’t been signed and sealed yet but to have a guy like Joe committing to us is wonderful,” said Gold.

“He’s got so much improving to do and I think he’s a real star in the making.

“He’s an impressive guy and a great guy, and I have really enjoyed his worth ethic.

“He’s got something – he’s got X-factor - there’s no doubt about that. But every day and every week he’s getting better.”

Gold added: “Joe is relatively new to the hooker position but he has improved and come on leaps and bounds.”
