WORCESTER Warriors will not be making any “panic” signings ahead of the new Aviva Premiership season despite being blighted by injuries.

Director of rugby Gary Gold admits it is “unbelievably frustrating” to have so many first team players on the casualty list.

But he insists it is “not a major concern” and having seen his side run Irish giants Munster close in a 35-26 friendly defeat at Sixways on Thursday he reckons Warriors have got enough in their squad to cope with the number of absentees.

“The only time we would look to bring somebody in is if we actually start finding ourselves low on numbers where we physically can’t pick enough players,” Gold said.

“At this stage there is no panic and there is enough encouragement from Thursday night’s game to know that we have got a good enough (players) to crack on with.”

Back row Marco Mama (knee) is not due back until the new year while tight-head prop Simon Kerrod (groin) and scrum-half Luke Baldwin (bicep) face over two months on the sidelines.

Warriors are also without flankers David Denton (ankle), Dewald Potgieter (knee) and Carl Kirwan (shoulder), props Nick Schonert (finger), Ethan Waller (shoulder) and Gareth Milasinovich (hamstring), hooker Niall Annett (hamstring), centre Max Stelling (ankle), full-back Chris Pennell (calf) and versatile back Ryan Mills (hip and shoulder).

Gold claimed many of the knocks his players sustained came from “freak accidents” rather than a “training overload”.

“It is not a major concern, but it is unbelievably frustrating,” he said.

“It is the one element of coaching that is the biggest frustration especially when you see the type of injuries.

“We are so scientific in today’s day and age with our methodology and our training techniques and none of those injuries came because of training overload.

“Touchwood we didn’t have any guys tearing muscles as it was ACLs and an MCL in a game.

“They have not been from guys dropping weights on their toes because they were not being monitored correctly in the gym.

“They were freak accidents, which happen.

“I am not concerned about them because it means that a couple of guys are going to be coming back.

“We have got a squad of about 42 or 43 guys and we want to back everyone one of those guys.

“The good thing about it is that we have seen some guys which ordinarily would not have got game-time put their hand up and play really well.

“For a team to be leading Munster after 60 or 65 minutes when there is no Schonert, Spencer, Dewald, Marco, Mills and Bryce Heem, is exciting.”
