WORCESTER Warriors have been left sweating over injuries to centres Ben Te’o and Wynand Olivier after their 35-8 loss at Newcastle Falcons.

Te’o was drafted into the starting line-up moments before kick-off after Olivier “pulled his hamstring” in the warm-up.

But the British and Irish Lions star lasted just 27 minutes as he “damaged” his arm and had to be replaced by Jamie Shillcock.

Director of rugby Gary Gold admitted Te’o’s injury was a “concern” and confirmed he would undergo a scan to discover the extent of the problem.

“It is a concern,” Gold said.

“There is a plate in his arm and it looks like he has damaged something around that, so we will have a scan and we will see how bad that is.

“I hope it is not too bad as we would very much like him involved going forward.

“I think he was pretty focused on doing well, so it is disappointing for him.”

With centres Ryan Mills (hip and shoulder) and Max Stelling (ankle) also on the treatment table, it leaves light on midfield options.

But Gold said they agreed not to risk Olivier after he pulled up and will hope to get him back fit for next Sunday’s home clash against Wasps (3pm).

“Wynand pulled his hamstring,” Gold added.

“He felt that if he had started to try to play the game he would have damaged it more.”
