LOCK Will Spencer has been ruled out of Worcester Warriors’ Aviva Premiership clash against Wasps at Sixways on Sunday (3pm).

The powerful second row sustained an ankle injury in the second half of Warriors’ 35-8 defeat at Newcastle Falcons last Friday.

Director of rugby Gary Gold said he was concerned the 25-year-old had broken his foot when he landed “badly”.

But after being assessed by medics, it turned out Spencer’s injury was not as bad as feared.

He now faces up to two weeks on the side-lines, meaning he is also likely to miss Warriors’ fixture against Exeter Chiefs next Friday.

“Will has hurt his ankle,” Gold said.

“It was a bit of a worry as he landed quite badly.

“At the time we thought he may have even broken his foot, but he hasn’t, so he will be fine.

“But we just need to give him a little bit more of a rest.”

Full-back Chris Pennell, who has had an injury-hit pre-season, is also out of the Midlands derby as he recovers from a “quad” problem.
