THE return of Will Spencer was one of the only positives director of rugby Alan Solomons could glean from Worcester Warriors' 22-9 loss at London Irish.

Spencer came on for the final 30 minutes of Warriors’ Aviva Premiership clash at the Madejski Stadium last Sunday.

It was the 25-year-old’s first appearance for Worcester in more than a month due to injury and illness.

Spencer underwent a small operation on his ankle last month ruling him out of Warriors' European Challenge Cup and Anglo-Welsh Cup games.

His comeback was then delayed as he came down with a sickness bug and was deemed unfit to play against Exeter Chiefs and Gloucester in the league.

Although he was unable to change the result against Irish, Solomons was pleased to see him get back out onto the field.

“Looking on the positive side Spenny came back,” Solomons said.

“I thought he acquitted himself well in the 30 minutes that he got which is a positive for us going forward.”

Spencer will join Leicester Tigers in the summer but will now be looking to face his future employers when they arrive at Sixways on Sunday (3pm).

Ill-discipline and errors cost Worcester dear as Piet van Zyl’s first-half try and 17 points from the boot of Greig Tonks guided Irish to victory.

The gap between Warriors and the Exiles has now been cut to 12 points with six games remaining.

And Solomons has urged his players to put the defeat behind them and get themselves in the “right frame of mind” to face Tigers.

“What I have said to the players is life is not about the falling down it is about the getting up every time you get knocked down,” Solomons said.

“We have got to do that. We have got to dust ourselves off and prepare for Leicester.”

Warriors suffered a double blow before kick off when centre Jackson Willison (hand) and hooker Jack Singleton (back) pulled out through injury. Scrum-half Francois Hougaard was also forced off with an ankle problem.

“We weren’t 100 per cent at the races,” Solomons said.

“There was a reason for that but there is no excuse.

“The Premiership is relentless. All sides have injuries and you have got to cope with them.”
