A NEW fly-half and scrum-half are set to be added to Worcester Warriors’ “flourishing” academy for next season.

The two young prospects have been identified by academy manager Chim Gale and backs development coach Gordon Ross.

And director of rugby Alan Solomons said he had been assured the duo would “make a difference” as he looks ahead to the 2018-19 campaign.

Solomons admitted Warriors had been “missing” a half-back pairing in the youth ranks that would provide extra cover for the first-team.

With no number 10 in the academy squad, the likes of Hartpury College’s Paul Morgan and Birmingham Moseley duo Ollie Allsopp and Sam Hollingsworth have been brought in to play at stand-off for Worcester Cavaliers this term.

Cavaliers were also in a position in late December when scrum-half Luke Baldwin had move to fly-half due to a string of injuries.

University of Bath’s George Wootten featured regularly in the number nine shirt in the Premiership Rugby A League with Malvern College student Will Lane also drafted in.

“I am happy with where they are going with the academy as they have recruited a young nine and 10 which I think they have been missing,” Solomons said.

“They have been identified by Gordon and Chim so that will be interesting to see them come into the set-up. We haven’t had a young nine and 10 and I think that’s very important.

“They both feel that these are two good young players and will make a difference.”

This season has a number of academy aces make their senior debuts and Solomons said he was pleased with the club’s production line of young talent.

“Over 18 players all participated with the seniors,” Solomons said.

“Andrew Kitchener, Ted Hill, Will Butler and Ollie Lawrence will be involved in the pre-season stuff and there will be others who will come into that mix as well.”

He added: “The big thing is keeping the players here which is absolutely fundamental to us. The vision here is to build a sustainable Premiership club through a flourishing and vibrant academy.”
