WORCESTER Warriors forward Ted Hill, right, says England under 20s’ clash against South Africa at Sixways tonight will be “one to remember” (7.30pm).

It will be the first time Warriors’ ground has staged international rugby in more than five years and Hill is relishing the chance to run out in front of his friends and family.

The 19-year-old is expected to feature for England in the World Rugby Under 20 Championship which gets under way in France later this month.

But he is keen to “solidify” his place in the team and reckons the home support will give him a further incentive to produce his best.

“It is going to be the first time I have played in an England shirt at Sixways,” said Hill who will start in the back row.

“It will be enjoyable to see all the familiar faces around. Whenever you put on an England jersey it is an honour but especially when it is at home and a game leading into the championships.

“It will be one to remember. My mum and dad will be there along with other family and friends so it will be nice to have them there watching.

“They have supported me all the way along so I will be playing hard for them.”

Hill is part of Warriors’ academy and made his first-team debut in the Anglo-Welsh Cup in November.

He also starred for England under 20s in the Six Nations earlier this year but he is determined to press his case for selection ahead of the world championships.

The former Worcester Sixth Form College student has been selected in the starting line-up to face South Africa along with Warriors team-mates Ollie Lawrence and James Scott.

Beck Cutting has been named as a travelling reserve.

But Will Butler has been ruled out due to an arm injury sustained in Worcester’s 32-24 defeat at Northampton Saints last weekend.

“There is a lot of competition for spots all around the field,” Hill said.

“I am just looking to solidify my spot in the team by training as hard as I can in each session and showing the coaches what I can do.”

England have faced the Springboks in successive semi-finals in the world championships, defeating them 39-17 in 2016 and 24-22 in 2017.

And it will be their first game since Steve Bates’ side agonisingly missed out on the Six Nations title, losing on points difference to France.

“It is always nice to have a go at a southern hemisphere side and see where you are as a team,” Hill added.

“We totally respect South Africa as a side.

“They always bring massive physicality up front and from having played them in the past I know they bring smart decision-makers at 10.

“It will be a hard day but if we can go at them in the forwards then we should be alright.”

The last time Sixways hosted an England under 20s game was in February 2013 when Warriors’ Ben Howard helped his side to victory over France.

Current internationals Henry Slade, Luke Cowan-Dickie and Kyle Sinclair were also in the team that day.
