WE have had one of the best week’s training since my involvement at Worcester Warriors and the spirit in the camp is very high after backto- back wins in the Championship.

The Cavaliers had an exceptionally good day at the office on Monday — it was a superb effort from them to rack up more than 50 points against Leicester at Welford Road.

The competition for places in the first team squad is growing all the time and I know a lot of our experienced players are getting energy from the displays from the Cavaliers.

Max Stelling has been in tremendous form and we know players like him will soon get their rewards with places in the first team.

It was great to get our first Championship away win at Doncaster Knights.

I thought we played some really good rugby, initially, and we showed a good balance between learning and growing, which was very pleasing for the whole squad.

Sam Betty must take a lot of credit — he played superbly and put in an outstanding defensive effort.

He stood tall and it was nice to see him get a pushover try at the end.

Seven of us took a break from rugby to enjoy an excellent day’s kayaking at Rosson- Wye on Sunday. It was an idea that Andries Pretorius came up with and we enjoyed three hours on the river.

Andries, Dean Hammond, Mike Williams, Ben Howard, Charlie Mulchrone, Ignacio Mieres and I all had a great time and, thankfully, none of us ended up in the water. It was refreshing to get the sun on our backs before winter draws in. Being a South African I am a big fan of the outdoors and it was nice to have some fun away from our job of playing rugby.

Mike Williams, Charlie, Alex Grove and me are all playing golf at Bransford today and, hopefully, Mike and I can clinch another win without it going to extra playoff holes.

We are all really looking forward to Saturday’s match against Nottingham and to continue our development as a side. We will need to be at the top of our game. It’s always an exciting prospect playing in front of our home supporters and my parents, Gerrit-Jan and Suzanne, will be in the crowd. They are visiting me for a week and I am looking forward to seeing them. They have been very supportive of my rugby and I couldn’t have progressed without their backing.

I received a card in the post after my first captain’s column in the Worcester News last week and I would welcome fans’ feedback. I am keen to get the supporters involved and I want to engage with them as much as possible.
