I WILL be having a break from playing action for the next few weeks but I will be training very hard away from the rugby pitch.

The lads play at Nottingham on Sunday and I will cheer them on in the British and Irish Cup matches.

A few of us will be having a break and use the next few weeks as a period of conditioning work.

We will be trying to sharpen our fitness and overcome a few niggles to make sure we are ready for the next run of Championship matches.

We played really well, initially, at Rotherham and the first 30 minutes, in particular, were our most clinical and we took all our opportunities. It was some of the best rugby we have played.

Rotherham are a tough team to play at their own place and have a passionate group of loyal supporters so we were chuffed to come away with maximum points.

In the latter part of the first period, I thought we played rugby in the Rotherham half and we retained possession which forced them to defend.

Ignacio Mieres kicked a penalty from half-way which was important as it gave us a three-score cushion.

I wanted to go for the posts because the scoreboard showed it was a long way back for Rotherham.

In the second-half we probably didn’t take into account how strong the wind was but we stopped the expected early onslaught.

Sam Betty’s yellow card was harsh as he was involved in a clash of heads before the impact of his tackle.

He attempted to use his arms in the tackle so he was unlucky to be sin-binned.

But we were only down to 14 men for 10 minutes and showed our experience to slow down the clock and our set-pieces worked really well.

We probably could have changed our strategy a bit but defended well.

We have been working hard on our defensive aspects and know that will be an important part of our campaign.

It was nice to have my parents over from South Africa and to show them what the Championship is all about.

Now we have had our first block of Championship fixtures, some players will get a rest and others will be promoted to play in the cup.

The Cavaliers have been outstanding with four wins from four A-League matches.

I feel that I have struggled a bit with the way the Championship is played.

I would like to have got more involved but I know this will happen in time as I get more used to the competition and my team-mates.

As a squad, I am confident we are heading in the right direction. If we apply ourselves mentally, we can become a well-drilled side but there’s a long way to go yet.
