WORCESTER Warriors get their British & Irish Cup campaign off to a flying start with a 58-10 crushing of Newport.

The Sixways side scored seven tries through Andy Short, Matt Kvesic, Joe Carlisle, Greg King, Callum Black, Ed Shervington and Tom Arscott.

Carlisle, who had a fine game, also added 23 points with the boot.

Newport's points came from full-back Alan Awcock's try and five points from stand-off Chris Wannell.

The visitors also had to play more than a half of the game with 14 men after number eight Andrew Coombs was red-carded for a kick to Matt Kvesic's head.

Warriors have named a team with a mix of youth and experience as the club plays its first ever game in the cup.

Sam Miller makes his first senior start on the left wing, while fellow academy rising stars Will Radburn, Louis Silver, James Whybrow and James Freeman — who celebrates his 20th birthday today — are named on the replacements bench.

Experienced back row Adam Balding will captain the side, which also features first-teamers Tom Arscott, Oriol Ripol, Joe Carlisle and Jonny Arr.

A powerful pack includes Graham Kitchener and Will Bowley in the second row, while Matt Kvesic is also named after returning from a training camp in Portugal with England under 20s.
