DONCASTER Knights’ director of rugby, Clive Griffiths, is relishing tomorrow’s showdown with Dean Ryan’s Warriors at Castle Park.

Griffiths admits it “would be nice to get one over on his former club” and has called it a battle between David and Goliath.

Worcester suffered a last-gasp 23-19 defeat at Bristol in their opening match but Ryan believes it will be their “toughest test” so far in this term’s Greene King IPA Championship.

Newly-promoted Knights have beaten Plymouth Albion and Jersey in their opening two matches and, according to Griffiths, have shown plenty of commitment.

Griffiths said: “We have not got the resources that other teams, like Worcester, have got and we all know that we need to be on top of our game this weekend.

“We have watched Worcester and they have watched us — so let’s bring it on.”

Griffiths moved to Warriors in May 2006 as assistant to Mike Ruddock and left in January 2009 after a mid-season coaching review.

He said: “Chris Pennell, Matt Cox and Alex Grove were at Worcester when I was at the club and they are excellent players. It’s cup final day for us and, when comparing the resources of the two clubs, it’s like a battle between David and Goliath.

“If Worcester have an off day and we play to our strengths then there’s a chance of an upset. But we will need bucketfuls of commitment from every player.”

Ryan said: “Doncaster are a big side and well organised under Clive and successful in their two outings. They have recruited the type of player who moves about in Yorkshire. A couple of players have come in over the summer and made an impact. It will probably be the toughest test we have had so far.”
