WARRIORS director of rugby Dean Ryan felt his side lost momentum in the second-half of his side’s 22-10 victory at bottom-of-the-table Plymouth Albion.

“In the first-half, we did everything right and we were quite clinical and, in the second-half, we strayed off theme a little bit and allowed Plymouth back in,” said Ryan.

“We are a bit disappointed because we talked about making sure that our individual desire to do well didn’t taking away from what was possible in this match.

“I felt that happened a bit in the second-half and, although people were trying to be positive, we lost the cohesiveness as a team.

“I don’t think we were ever in danger of losing the match but we were never as comfortable as we would have liked and that’s credit to Plymouth who piled away at us towards the end.

“We have to better - we gave Plymouth too much field position and we have to learn from that.

“It was always going tough but we were in control of making things a bit easier for ourselves “We did the tough bit in the first-half and nailed the drive but we just came away from the power we had at the scrum and we came away from the drive.”

Ryan felt that Warriors should have adapted better to Plymouth’s greasy pitch and the cold and wet weather conditions.

“Sometimes you have to accept that rugby is not easy to play and the conditions can bring everything down a bit and we have to get used to these things,” said Ryan.

“The nature of this league is that we are not playing on astroturf and sometimes there are elements of the game to which you have to adapt.

“We are sometimes frustrated that there are only three or four things up for grabs. We tried to make it six or seven and it made our game more laboured.”

Plymouth’s head coach, James Shanahan, was delighted his side bounced back to take the plaudits in the second-half.

“At half-time at 17-0 down, there were a few concerns that Worcester would have pushed on and put 30 or 40 points on us like they have done to quite a few teams this season,” said Shanahan.

“But the boys showed a lot of heart and a lot of endeavour and deserved to win the second-half and we were probably a bit unfortunate not to pick up another try to get a losing bonus point.

“We probably deserved a point but when you’re at the bottom of the league and fighting for your lives, sometimes you don’t get those breaks.

“We are happy that we put in a better second-half performance but Worcester are very hard to break down.

“Worcester dominated every collision in the first half and they are big, physical side and it’s hard to stop.

“We talked about trying to stop them and I think we did that in the second-half and put them under a bit of pressure which made them force things and make some errors. It allowed us to get some field position and to play in their 22.”

Shanahan added: “It gives us a bit of heart and we have got keep fighting. There are a lot of positives for us to take from the game.”
