WORCESTER Warriors have announced their fifth annual charity matchday to raise money for the city’s Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The match will take place at Sixways on February 14 next year.

The occasion comes as Acorns for the Three Counties, based in Bath Road, Worcester, celebrates its tenth anniversary caring for local life-limited and life-threatened children and their families.

A host of fundraising activities will take place on the day as Warriors go head-to-head with Greene King IPA Championship rivals Rotherham Titans at 3pm.

The Worcester club has allocated a number of tickets for the match at the exclusive Acorns rate of £25 which includes the use of the charity lounge and a complementary meal.

A proportion of each ticket sold goes directly towards Acorns.

Warriors will take to the field wearing special limited-edition match-day shirts designed by children at the hospice and these will be available to purchase from the Sixways store in the lead up to the game.

Acorns Corporate Partnerships Officer Laura Richards said: “It’s fantastic that Warriors have chosen to host a fifth charity match day, especially as this is such a significant year for Acorns for the Three Counties.

“Acorns and Warriors have developed a strong partnership over the years and it’s extremely generous of the club to share the funds raised on the day between us and their Community Foundation.”

Warriors’ Acorns Player Ambassador Sam Betty is urging people to support the event.

He said: “It is a great opportunity to have a spectacular night out with family or friends while supporting a worthy cause. My teammates and I have seen first hand the work that Acorns does, so it is a pleasure to be able to help support that.”

In the past year Acorns for the Three Counties has cared for over 180 children and 230 families, including those who are bereaved.

The charity relies heavily on donations to fund the majority of the £8 million per year it costs to provide its services.

Acorns tickets for the Rotherham Titans match at Sixways are being sold to supporters on a first-come first-served basis and are available by emailing laura.richards@acorns.org.uk or calling 01564-825043.
