MOSELEY head coach Kevin Maggs says Worcester Warri - ors have improved a lot since the start of the season – but he can’t predict which side will clinch promotion.

Warriors recorded a 50-10 victory at Moseley in Saturday’s Greene King IPA Championship Midlands derby – the fourth time they have beaten Maggs’ men this term.

He believes Warriors or Bristol will be returning to the Premiership at the end of the season but admits it is too hard to separate the rivals.

Bristol made up 18 points in the last seven minutes to dramatically win 29-28 at home to Yorkshire Carnegie yesterday.

Maggs said: “We have not played Bristol for the second time yet but there’s no ques - tion that Worcester are going to be in the play-offs with Bristol.

“It’s going to be very close and, at the minute, I couldn’t tell you who is going to get the one promotion spot.

Worcester have improved since we played them at the start of the season.”

He continued: “It was disappointing to concede 50 points at home but we were up against one of the promotion favourites and Worcester are spending a Premiership budget.

“They outgunned, overpowered and outfought us.”

Flanker Sam Betty scored a first-half hat-trick for Warriors, who led 40-5 at the interval and crossed the white - wash eight times in their 11th straight league victory.

Warriors’ director of rugby Dean Ryan said: “I am not really bothered where we are in the table and it doesn’t really matter at this stage.

“I am sure guys are watching Bristol’s results – but it’s not about that. It’s about making sure we are in the play-offs at the end of the season and that we have grown over the time. Then we will see if we are ready for the play-offs.

“Moseley contested the line- out pretty well in the first- half and we didn’t problem solve greatly. They got a bit of ball and that caused us an issue.

“In the second-half I thought we were a bit sharper and quicker.

“Each time we play we are learning a little bit more about each other and how to solve the issues we come across.”

Warriors now take a break from league action to concentrate on Saturday’s British and Irish Cup quarter-final against Pontypridd at Sixways (3pm).

Ryan says Carl Hogg will be stepping up to oversee the programme with Sam Vesty coaching the side and players drafted in from the Cavaliers.

“The Championship group is rolling along nicely now and Gerrit-Jan van Velze comes back into it for the next Championship game,” said Ryan.

“We look like we are building some depth and some strength.

“The Championship group doesn’t need to play every week and we still think opportunities are there for people who can play.

“The cup is about development for coaches too and we will still keep with them. It’s been really successful so far."
