WORCESTER Warriors’ director of rugby Dean Ryan says he has further signings to announce.

Earlier this week, Warriors revealed England international back-row Phil Dowson and London Welsh flanker Carl Kirwan will be arriving in the summer.

Ryan admitted: “I am not interested in some popularity contest about names. I am after people and if I can’t get those people then we won’t sign them.

“If I can get the people who buy into the club, they are the right people and are coming in for the right reasons we will do it.

“I will not put this club back in a position in terms of some sort of popularity race about signings.

“There isn’t a raft of people who are considered marquee but there are more signings to come which I think are an integral part of us.

“ I think Carl Kirwan is a marquee signing and if everybody goes and looks to see what he has been doing for two years, people will see that as a marquee signing. “ Ryan added: “As a support base we have got to change - there are no Lathams, Taumoepeau or Rawlingsons — they are not coming as it didn’t serve a purpose.

“We have got other signings to announce and I am pretty happy with them.”

England Saxons full-back Chris Pennell has a hamstring problem and is likely to miss Saturday’s Greene King IPA Championship home clash with Rotherham (12.35pm).

Ryan added: “We might have a look at somebody on the wing. We just need to keep pushing to make sure that when we get to the point where we have to select a 15 we will be pretty confident that everyone has had a chance to push hard to be in it.”

Meanwhile, former Wales star Gavin Henson has joined Worcester’s Championship rivals Bristol, from Bath, with immediate effect.
