FLANKER Sam Lewis admits Worcester Warriors must tighten up their defence for the Greene King IPA Championship promotion run-in.

Warriors leaked four tries in Saturday’s 39-26 win against Yorkshire Carnegie at Sixways and have just two matches remaining before the play-offs.

Swansea-born Lewis scored his maiden try for Warriors in the victory but knows Worcester must have a better forward platform in Saturday’s trip to Cornish Pirates.

“I had pretty mixed emo - tions after Yorkshire — we spoke about things in the changing rooms after the game,” said 24-year-old Lewis, a former Ospreys player.

“We were good in patches but poor in the others and we have to make sure we get that right for Saturday and put in an 80-minute performance.

“Yorkshire never gave up and kept clawing their way back into a one-score game.

We were disappointed in our defence — we have to get that right for the next couple of weeks.

“In rugby games you get your patches and momentum switches and Yorkshire got right back into the match.”

Lewis, who made 65 appearances over four seasons at Ospreys, was delighted to notch his first try for War - riors from a driving maul, against Carnegie.

“The credit goes to the other boys in the maul — they did the hard work and I was just there in the right place at the right time to dot it down,” said Lewis.

“It was a good feeling and hopefully there will be more.

“It was great to score at Six - ways. My last try was against Ulster about a year ago.”

Lewis left Ospreys after lack of matches, with Wales star Justin Tipuric standing in his way.

He said: “I just want to be playing. I would love to play again — but that’s up to the coaches. We have a big game at the weekend against Cornish Pirates. It’s a tough place to go and we will look forward to that before facing Bristol in the last game of the regular season."
