WORCESTER Warriors’ inclusion in the Twickenham double-header has caught the imagination of scrum-half Charlie Mulchrone.

The former Rotherham Titans skipper has never played at the home of English rugby and will hope to line up against reigning Aviva Premiership champions Saracens in November.

It is the first time Worcester have been chosen to participate in the day, which will also see a clash between London Irish and Wasps.

Mulchrone missed the Championship play-off final victory over Bristol in May after damaging a foot in the semi-final first-leg success at London Scottish.

“It’s great to be involved in these sorts of big games and it’s extra special because it’s at the home of rugby,” he said.

“It’s great for the club because it raises the profile for us and the local area.

“It will be great to get as many Worcester fans to Twickenham as possible.

“I have never played there. I was the 23rd man there — the water boy — when I was younger.

“It would be great to get on the hallowed turf and have a kick around. I think all the boys will be looking forward to that one.”

Warriors’ fixture with Saracens kicks off at 3.15pm on November 28 with London Irish facing Wasps in the second match at Twickenham at 5.30pm.

It could be a special day for the Mulchrone family with Charlie’s brother Fergus, another former Rotherham star, playing at centre for London Irish.

“It could be a good one because Andy Symons’ brother Matt is going to London Irish, so there could be two sets of brothers playing on the day at Twickenham if we are all selected,” said Mulchrone.

“I think my mother would be the happiest person because it means she would not have to pick a favourite son. It would be a great occasion but there are quite a few rounds to get through before then.”

Premiership Rugby’s commercial director Dominic Hayes said: “With Twickenham not available until after the World Cup, this is the earliest we are able to schedule this year’s London double-header but we are pleased we will deliver a day club rugby fans really look forward to.”
