CHIEF executive Jim O’Toole is urging Worcester Warriors fans to travel in their droves to Sunday’s Aviva Premiership clash at London Irish (1pm).

O’Toole is celebrating his first anniversary at Sixways this week after joining from London Irish, where he had worked as a consultant for two years before taking on the club’s commercial director role.

O’Toole has seen Warriors clinch promotion from the Championship and lift the British and Irish Cup in his first year at the helm.

But Warriors are now 10th in the Premiership and travel to Reading’s Madejski Stadium to face an Irish side propping up the table.

“There’s a lot of interaction on social media about supporters being disappointed with how things have gone so I would urge them to get out of their chairs and come and support us,” said O’Toole.

“Reading is only an-hour-and-a-half drive from Worcester so if we can get a lot of supporters along who will make noise and get behind the team it will make a huge difference to the players.”

Warriors have slipped to 11 straight defeats in all tournaments since beating La Rochelle 19-3 at Sixways in the European Challenge Cup in November.

And Worcester have won only once on the road in the Premiership since January 1, 2012 - a 17-12 success at Newcastle Falcons on March 30, 2014.

O’Toole said: “It’s hard to know the exact figures but we normally get a couple of hundred supporters for our away matches and we’re hoping people will make a special effort to travel on Sunday.”

Irish’s only reverse in their last eight fixtures against Warriors was a 35-11 Premiership loss at Sixways in September 2012.

Worcester’s only previous victory at the Madejski Stadium was in September 2005.

O’Toole said: “I am really looking forward to the match.

“I have a lot of good mates at London Irish from staff, fans and players and whatever happens on the pitch we will sit down together afterwards and have a pint.”

Meanwhile, O’Toole has paid tribute to Richard Colley, who has left the club after a successful stint as Warriors' finance director.

Colley led a transformation of the business with new ticketing, turnstile, tills and accounting systems.

Colley has strong family ties to Worcestershire, including an uncle who played a season for Worcester Rugby Club as an injury replacement.

“Richard joined us four years ago at a time when we needed some senior management to focus on setting up financial systems,” said O’Toole.

“He feels that project has now come to fruition and he wants new challenges. He leaves Warriors with our very best wishes.”
