WORCESTER Warriors’ hopes of a ninth-placed Aviva Premiership finish suffered a setback after Bath won their game in hand.

The West Country side recorded a 32-26 home win against Sale Sharks yesterday and are seven points clear of 10th-placed Warriors with two fixtures remaining.

Warriors travel to face fourth-placed Leicester Tigers in their penultimate match of the campaign on Saturday (3pm).

It will be another tough test for Warriors because Tigers know a win would book their place in the end-of-season play-offs alongside defending champions Saracens, Wasps and Exeter Chiefs.

Warriors have 35 points under their belt and have only finished ninth or above twice in theirPremiership history.

Warriors’ are just one point short of their third-best tally in the Premiership, which stands at 36, achieved in the 2007/08 and 2011/12 seasons.

Worcester’s record haul in the top tier is 47 points in their second Premiership season in 2005/06 and represents their highest-placed finish in eighth.

Warriors full-back Chris Pennell said: “We had a lot of unknowns at the beginning of the season but we secured our safety with three games to go, which was a good achievement,” he said.

“But I think frustration is the overall emotion in the camp. This group are not satisfied with just being a Premiership team, we want to be a successful one.”
