SIXWAYS will stage its last Aviva Premiership match on grass on Saturday – but fans will have to wait to get their hands on the hallowed turf.

Warriors will be the first Premiership outfit to convert to the latest generation of artificial grass pitch ahead of next season.

The new turf, which will cost Warriors a significant six-figure fee, allows more use for the club’s elite, academy and community rugby sections as well as hosting events.

“I think there are a few events still to take place on it so I don’t think the club will be wanting people pinching grass from the pitch,” said Ryan.

“But I have never looked at it as our last opportunity to play on grass because it won’t be.”

Warriors secured an impressive win on the artificial surface at Newcastle Falcons in March.

However, Ryan says his own experiences of synthetic grass pitches are limited.

But he admitted Sixways will be a “different environment" next season and the club will have to adapt their training schedules accordingly.

“I have only coached on it once in preparation for the game at Newcastle so to give an informed decision on playing styles and everything else on the surface is probably an assumption,” said Ryan.

“We’ve found that we cover a huge amount of distance and at a high pace when we train on the surface.

“It will change some of the dynamics and how we manage some people during the week.

“But we’ve got a pretty good high performance department headed by Nick Johnston who can look into that and make sure we have got it right when we come back in the summer.”
