WORCESTER Warriors hooker Jack Singleton scored a try in England’s comprehensive 48-10 win last night against Italy in their World Rugby Under 20 Championship opener in Manchester.

Warriors locks Huw Taylor and Andrew Kitchener also starred for England who dominated the second half.

Martin Haag's England side led 17-3 at the break with tries from George Nott and Sam Aspland-Robinson.

Italy's first-half points came from a long-range drop goal through the boot of Leonardo Mantelli.

England dominated the second period and ran away with the game courtesy of tries from Joe Marchant, a penalty try, Singleton and Zach Mercer.

England Head Coach Martin Haag said: "We played some great attacking rugby, with some real intent, which is what we are trying to do.

"At times it wasn't as accurate as we would have liked it to be. As a group we have standards we are aspiring to and want to express ourselves in our play.

"It was great to blow the cobwebs away and now we need to recover ahead of a big game on Saturday.”

England's next challenge is against old rivals Scotland on Saturday at the Manchester City Academy Stadium (6pm).
