ROOKIE trio Gareth Milasinovich, Perry Humphreys and Derrick Appiah will be part of Worcester Warriors’ first-team squad next season.

Tighthead prop Milasinovich and versatile back Humphreys have been promoted from the academy, while loosehead prop Appiah has also signed a new deal.

Milasinovich, 23, is recovering from a ruptured achilles tendon sustained in a 50-12 Aviva Premiership defeat against Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park in April.

Milasinovich had come on as a replacement for James Johnston when a scrum collapsed and was treated by the medical staff before being carried off on a stretcher.

Warriors director of rugby Dean Ryan later confirmed Milasinovich would be out of action for “a significant time”.

The South African-born player made four Premiership appearances - all as a replacement - for Warriors after arriving last summer from the University of Johannesburg.

Lincoln-born Humphreys, who can play on the wing or at full back, made four appearances for Warriors last term in the European Challenge Cup.

The 21-year-old joined the Warriors Academy in 2014 from the Leicester Tigers Academy set-up.

During Warriors’ promotion season from the Greene King IPA Championship, Humphreys played once in the league.

He also played seven times during Worcester’s triumphant British and Irish Cup run, scoring his maiden senior try at Moseley and then snapping up a match-winning touchdown against Leinster A in the semi-finals.

Modena-born Appiah, who turns 22 next month, was part of Warriors’ first team last season, making one appearance.

He arrived at Sixways last summer and played in Warriors’ European Challenge Cup defeat against Italian side Zebre in November.

He had a loan spell with Cinderford but could not stop the Forest of Dean outfit from being relegated from National One.

Warriors high performance director Nick Johnston was delighted with the recognition for academy graduates Humphreys and Milasinovich.

“Players' development in the academy is illustrated by the fact that Perry and Gareth have secured first-team deals," said Johnston.
