COOPER Vuna’s dream of appearing at this summer’s Rio Olympics is over after Tonga Sevens missed out on the final qualification spot.

The New Zealand-born wing, who has won two caps for Australia, switched his allegiance to Tonga in a bid to make the Games.

But the Worcester Warriors star was unable to inspire the Pacific Islanders who finished 10th out of 16 in an Olympic rugby sevens qualifying competition in Monaco last weekend.

Tonga finished bottom of Pool A after losing 26-0 to Samoa, 31-12 against Ireland and 21-14 against Zimbabwe.

Vuna's side did reach the Bowl final after seeing off South Korea and Uruguay but went down to Zimbabwe in the final.

There was success for Warriors lock Tevita Cavubati who helped Fiji claim their fourth successive Pacific Nations title with victory over James Johnston's Samoa.

The Fijians trailed 16-3 at half-time but mounted an impressive comeback to claim a 26-16 win with Cavubati playing the full match.

Johnston will be hoping his Samoa side can finish on a high when they play their final match against Tonga on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Jaba Bregvadze helped Georgia defeat Tonga in Suva, with the European side scoring a last-minute try to claim a 23-20 victory.
