WORCESTER Warriors’ Sixways ground will be hosting sports “never seen” in the city before, according to chief executive Jim O’Toole.

Warriors’ new artificial grass pitch will be staging six-a-side football from September 12.

And O’Toole revealed Warriors will be announcing “some more exciting non-rugby events”

“There will be other similar providers using the pitches on a commercial basis around our core rugby needs,” said O’Toole.

“We will be announcing some more exciting non-rugby events that will be taking place in sports you would never have seen in Sixways or Worcester before.”

Warriors ripped up their grass playing surface this summer in a move described by former director of rugby Dean Ryan as “a commercial decision” by the club.

Soccersixes’ chiefs say they plan to bring a football league to Sixways on Monday evenings, running from 7pm onwards.

Warriors are the first Aviva Premiership outfit to convert to the latest generation of artificial grass.

While Saracens and Newcastle Falcons have switched to synthetic, Warriors are the first in the UK to feature an organic infill rather than rubber crumb.

The new turf, which has cost Warriors a significant six-figure fee, will allow more use for the club’s elite, academy and community rugby sections as well as hosting events.
