ENGLAND centre Ben Te’o will make his maiden Worcester Warriors appearance in Saturday’s warm-up match at Championship outfit Jersey (2.30pm).

The 29-year-old former Leinster star is expected to form a midfield partnership with fellow newcomer Jackson Willison.

Te’o was involved in part of Worcester’s French training trip to Tignes after being picked for an England training camp.

He missed Warriors’ 35-14 defeat by Top 14 giants Clermont Auvergne last Friday but looks set to wear the Worcester jersey for the first time against the Islanders.

Head coach Carl Hogg said: “Ben was away with Eddie Jones’ elite performance squad training squad and flew out to Tignes seven days into our trip.

“We got some training under Ben’s belt but he will look to feature this weekend and we are looking forward to having him on board.

“He will sit alongside Jackson (Willison) on this occasion and I think it’s a very potent midfield.

“But we’ve got lots of choice in there because Wynand Olivier played very well last Friday so we have real competition not just in the centres but right across the backline.”

Te’o, who converted to union from rugby league, was Warriors’ highest profile signing for this season’s Aviva Premiership campaign.

The New Zealand-born player impressed for Irish outfit Leinster last term and was fast-tracked into the England set-up for their summer tour to Australia.

England won the Test series 3-0, although Te’o didn’t feature on the field.

The trip to Jersey should prove an interesting test for Warriors, particularly after losing 23-21 on their last visit to St Peter’s in March 2015 in front of 2,909 fans.

A late Aaron Penberthy drop-goal in that contest 17 months ago ended Warriors' 24-game winning run in the Greene King IPA Championship.

Warriors led 14-11 at the interval with a Sam Smith try and three Andy Symons penalties but Jersey full-back Penberthy kicked the Islands to an historic triumph.

The Islanders had also caused problems for Warriors at Sixways earlier in the Championship season.

Jersey, on that occasion, fought back from 22-5 down to pull level at 29-29 until Ryan Lamb’s last minute penalty gave Warriors a narrow 32-29 victory.

Hogg admitted: “We will have a senior squad going to Jersey and it will be a tough challenge.

“They bumped us two seasons ago when we went to Jersey in the Championship so we are under no illusions about how tough this match is going to be.”
