ENGLAND hopeful Ben Te’o fits into the “template” and “understands the challenges” at Worcester Warriors, according to head coach Carl Hogg.

And the former Scotland international believes Te’o will benefit from the “high tempo” and “high movement” rugby which Warriors are trying to play this season.

Former England and Bath centre Jeremy Guscott claimed Auckland-born Te’o has joined the “wrong club” in Warriors to boost his international hopes.

Guscott told The Rugby Paper that Te’o should have rejected Warriors’ advances for a “top-four” or “top-six side”.

Guscott, who starred at outside centre in his 16-year career at Bath, does not think Te’o will “get enough ball” at Warriors to impress national coach Eddie Jones.

But Hogg said: “We are talking about taking this club up the league.

“We are not where we wanted to be but we’re unbeaten at home and we’re trying to expand our game.

“We are trying to play a game on high tempo and high movement and we see Ben fitting into that template.”

Te’o, who has made the switch from rugby league to union, travelled with England’s squad in the summer but did not play in their 3-0 series whitewash over Australia.

The former Leinster star was part of England’s elite player squad this week as Jones prepared his troops for autumn internationals against South Africa on November 12, Fiji on November 19, Argentina on November 26 and Australia on December 3.

Te’o has missed Warriors’ last three matches with concussion but is expected back in the squad for Saturday’s Aviva Premiership trip to Leicester Tigers (3pm).

Warriors were soundly beaten 35-3 against defending champions Saracens in their opener at Twickenham.

Te'o scored a try but was replaced at half-time against Gloucester as Worcester let slip a 20-9 lead in a 23-23 draw.

Warriors squandered a 17-3 lead at Guscott's former club Bath in a 37-22 defeat.

Worcester hit back from 17-5 down to lead 31-17 against Sale Sharks in a pulsating match at Sixways which finished 34-34.

Warriors finally secured their first win of the season after beating Newcastle Falcons 11-9 last Sunday.

Hogg said: “Ben understands the challenge here. We’ve got some work to do and we’ve got a bit to travel. But he has fully bought into the journey.”
