HEAD coach Carl Hogg says Worcester Warriors are keen to “maximise” the “huge potential” of new signing Auguy Slowik.

The “lightning quick” back joined Warriors for the rest of the season after leaving Bristol, where he struggled for first-team opportunities.

Hogg says Warriors can provide the 22-year-old with a “development pathway” and a chance to be “exposed to senior rugby”.

After bursting onto the scene in 2013, the Bristol academy graduate scored 19 tries in 27 appearances over two seasons.

But chances then dried up for Slowik, who had a loan spell at Yorkshire Carnegie in 2015 and made just one more outing following his return to Bristol.

A “mutual decision” was made for him to leave the club and their Aviva Premiership rivals Warriors quickly swooped to sign him.

“Auguy is lightning quick and a talented player,” said Hogg, who has seen young guns Josh Adams, Jamie Shillcock and Perry Humphreys flourish at Warriors this term.

“One of the things we can offer at Warriors is a development pathway.

"He recognises that having seen some of our young players come through and improve from being exposed to senior rugby in the last year-and-a-half.

“Different clubs have different philosophies. But what we have got is a very exciting young player who has got huge potential and we are looking to maximise that.”

With injuries to the back-line, Hogg said Slowik would create further competition but admitted he did not intend to throw him into top-flight action.

“He came on our radar when we had some injuries in our back three and, when we looked at him, we could see he was a very exciting player,” Hogg added.

“We welcome his addition to the squad and the competition he will provide. We will look to reintegrate him.

"Whether that’s through the European programme or the Anglo-Welsh programme, he will get an opportunity to put his hand up and there are A-League games coming up as well.”
