LOCK Will Spencer has vowed to deliver a big performance for Worcester Warriors tomorrow against former club Bath at Sixways (3pm).

The hard-working second row believes he still has something to prove to himself after enduring a frustrating, injury-hit spell at the Recreation Ground.

The 24-year-old joined Bath academy in 2010 but made just 11 first-team appearances and spent part of the 2013-14 season on loan at London Welsh in the Championship.

But he has been a first-choice partner for skipper Donncha O’Callaghan since Gary Gold arrived at Worcester at the end of January.

And Spencer, who has played every minute of Warriors' last six league matches, is determined to fire his side to Aviva Premiership safety with a victory against play-off chasing Bath.

“I had a very difficult last period at Bath and it didn’t end the way I wanted it to,” recalled Spencer.

"But I am happy at Worcester and want to go out there and put in a big performance.

“I still have a lot of good friends at Bath.

“Nathan Catt, Ross Batty, Charlie Ewels and Dave Attwood are all top-quality players but I want to challenge myself and perhaps prove some stuff to myself.

“Injuries are part and parcel of the sport and a few bad injuries can happen to anybody.

“Unfortunately it happened to me at Bath and the right thing for me to do with my career was to move on.

“Hopefully I can play my best rugby this weekend and if that can help Worcester beat Bath then that would be brilliant.”

Warriors are not safe from relegation but sit eight points above basement boys Bristol who host table-topping Wasps at Ashton Gate on Sunday.

However, Gold’s men know a first win over Bath in nine meetings would go a long way to preserving their top-tier status with tough fixtures remaining at Newcastle Falcons and at home to Leicester Tigers.

“We don’t want to leave anything up to Bristol or their results,” said Spencer.

“We have three games left and will treat each one individually.

"We know if we get a good win against Bath that will be massive for our season.

“But we know how good Bath are. You only have to look across their squad to see how many internationals and great players they’ve got.

“These are the challenges and tests you want and we feel confident at home where we are a match for anybody especially when the fans get behind us.”

Spencer was sidelined with a back injury when Warriors travelled to the Recreation Ground to face Bath in the third match of the campaign.

Worcester led 17-6 at the interval before second-half tries from Anthony Watson, Matt Banahan, Semesa Rokoduguni and Leroy Houston powered Bath to a 37-22 triumph.

Spencer hopes Warriors can make home advantage count in what is expected to be a near-11,499 sell-out crowd.

“We know Sixways can be a fortress for us,” said Spencer.

“It sounds a bit cliché but when we run out at home with the fans behind us we are a tough team to beat.

“The vibe around the place when we played Saracens and Bristol was incredible.

“We know the challenge ahead of us is big but we are really looking forward to it.

“We will be the underdogs and quite rightly so because Bath are a top side.

“But if we stick to our game-plan and do what we can do I know we can come away with a win.”
