WORCESTER Warriors’ Simon Cross is the new head coach at National League One outfit Birmingham Moseley.

The 36-year-old former Edinburgh and Wasps back-rower is Warriors’ breakdown coach.

He was previously responsible for defence at Worcester until director of rugby Gary Gold brought in Omar Mouneimne as the new defence and kicking strategy coach towards the end of last term.

Cross will combine his roles at both clubs next season.

“I’m very excited about the season ahead,” said Cross, who will work under rugby director Richard Protherough at Moseley.

“I will get to combine a specialist breakdown role with Worcester while heading up a club steeped in history at Birmingham Moseley.

“It will be an exciting season on all fronts and I look forward to challenging players at both clubs to fulfil their potential.”

Moseley are part-time and train in the evenings.

Cross’ appointment raises hopes that Moseley will be able to access a more consistent supply of dual-registered Premiership academy talent as a result of the connection with Worcester.

Last term, Moseley were allocated centre Worcester’s Afeafe Haisila on a fairly regular basis in the second half of the season.

Warriors lock Andy Kitchener also turned out a few times for the red-and-blacks in the autumn.
