SCOTT van Breda admitted the chance to rekindle his relationship with “no-nonsense” director of rugby Alan Solomons was too good to turn down.

The utility back will join Worcester Warriors from Championship side Jersey Reds in the summer after signing a one-year deal.

South African-born van Breda worked under Solomons at Eastern Province Kings where he racked up 405 points in 64 games.

And the versatile 26-year-old said he was relishing the prospect of receiving Solomons’ backing again as he bids to express himself in the Aviva Premiership.

“I can’t wait to get over there as I am looking forward to working with Solly again and stepping up to the Premiership,” van Breda said.

“He got me in at the Kings as he coached there for a couple of years before moving to Edinburgh and I really enjoyed his no-nonsense approach.

“He tells you when you have played well and when you haven’t.

“He also gives you freedom and lets you go and play. You know he will give you his full backing when he picks you which gives players confidence.

“If you have got a coach that is doubting you it’s not good but someone like Solly tells you straight what you need to work on.

“I really enjoyed that side of him.”

Solomons, who has also previously worked at Edinburgh, Northampton Saints and Ulster, arrived at Sixways in October before being appointed as Gary Gold’s successor in late December.

“I saw Solly was involved at Warriors and got chatting to him,” van Breda continued.

“He then offered me the chance to come to Worcester.

“As much as I have enjoyed it here and would have liked to have stayed longer this was one of those opportunities which I have wanted for a long time.

“It was too good to turn down so I am really looking forward to it.”

After a successful three-year spell at Eastern Province Kings van Breda made the move to Western Province in 2016.

He landed 80 points in 15 appearances for the Cape Town outfit and made three appearances for the Stormers in Super Rugby.

The full-back who can also operate at fly-half, centre and wing arrived at Jersey last summer and was swiftly named captain.

But he has made just 10 appearances this term due to injuries which he hopes are now behind him.

“I got through the pre-season games but in the second Championship game of the season against Cornish Pirates I slipped and hurt my knee. That injury put me out for six weeks.

“I then got back for two games and in the last few minutes of the London Scottish match I fractured my cheek bone and I was out for another six weeks.

“Combining those two injuries that was the most time I had been out injured in my whole career.

“It was just unlucky but since coming back for the Pirates game just before New Year’s Day I have played all the games and I am really enjoying it.”
