MARCO Mama could make his first appearance of the season for Worcester Warriors when they take on Newcastle Falcons at Sixways on Saturday (3pm).

The “dynamic” back rower has been battling back to full fitness since damaging his knee ligaments in pre-season training.

After a long wait on the sidelines, Mama returned to action in Worcester Cavaliers’ 40-14 defeat at Newcastle last week.

Although he only lasted 25 minutes before being replaced by Andrew Durutalo director of rugby Alan Solomons admitted the forward was now in contention to face Falcons in the Aviva Premiership.

“It was really good to see him get through the 25 minutes because I had not seen him (in action) since I have been here,” Solomons said.

“He has looked very sharp at training but he needs the game time under his belt.

“We felt that having been out for nine months and the advice from the experts was that 25 minutes was probably the right amount of time.”

Mama has played 28 games for Warriors since he first arrived at Sixways in August 2015 on loan before securing a permanent move from Bristol in 2016.

Half of those appearances came last season and he will now be hoping to add to his haul as he recently agreed a one-year contract extension.

“Marco falls into the mix for selection now for Newcastle,” Solomons continued.

“He has got to be considered for that.

“He is a very good footballer, a good rugby player and a dynamic and explosive athlete.”
