CHRIS Pennell believes team-mate Josh Adams has a “massive future” in the game as the Worcester Warriors wing aims to make an impact for Wales this summer.

Adams is in the 31-man touring party to the Americas where Wales will take on South Africa in Washington before facing Argentina in two Tests next month.

The 23-year-old’s selection comes after a stellar season for club and country as he finished as the Aviva Premiership’s joint top try-scorer and made his senior international debut in February.

Pennell admitted it was a “pleasure” to play alongside Adams who scored 13 tries in 21 league games this term which was only equalled by Newcastle Falcons' Vereniki Goneva.

And the 31-year-old reckoned the Welshman had the potential to be “right up there with the top Test players”.

“Josh is already a quality player,” Pennell said.

“Along with his excellent physical attributes he is a smart kid as he reads the game really well.

“He has got a massive future in the game. I have been very impressed with him and it has been a pleasure to play with him as his communication out there is second to none.”

Adams only broke into the first team last season, making his Premiership bow against Bath in September 2016.

Since then he has established himself as a key figure in Warriors’ side and made a habit of crossing the whitewash, registering 30 tries in 48 games across all competitions in the past two seasons.

Adams has also filled in at full-back when Pennell has been unavailable and the Sixways stalwart said he had been impressed by the former Scarlets ace’s communication skills.

“I learn probably as much from guys like Josh as they do from me,” Pennell continued.

“We chat along with Bryce (Heem) who is very experienced and try to help each other out.”

Adams’ superb form for Warriors saw him earn his first senior cap for Wales in this year’s Six Nations.

He started in the 34-7 win over Scotland at the Principality Stadium before retaining his place for the 12-6 loss to England at Twickenham.

The Swansea-born back will now look to feature this summer with Wales taking on South Africa in Washington on Saturday, June 2.

Warren Gatland’s side then travel to Argentina where they will face the Pumas in San Juan on Saturday, June 9, and in Santa Fe on Saturday, June 16.

Pennell, who won his solitary England cap on the tour to New Zealand in 2014, said he was not surprised by Adams’ rise and expected big things from him in the future.

“From my own experience when you take the step up (to the international stage) you realise how close you are at Premiership level,” Pennell added.

“Playing in the Six Nations will give him a huge amount of confidence going into the Welsh camp again as he knows he is good enough at that level.

“He has certainly got the ambition to get better so I think he is going to be right up there with the top Test players.”
