PLAYER-of-the-season Jonny Arr has today put pen to paper on a new contract extension, which I understand is for a further season at Sixways.

Home-grown scrum-half Arr, a product of the Warriors academy who was given his senior club debut in 2008 and has made 88 appearances for Warriors, joins fellow number nine Shaun Perry in agreeing terms on a new deal.

Head coach Richard Hill, himself a former England scrum-half, said: “I’m pleased that Jonny has committed his future to us. We have a fantastic contrast with Shaun and Jonny at the club, two contrasting scrum-halves, and it is important to have different players who can change games.

“Jonny’s attributes are that he is very fast to the breakdown and gets the ball away quickly. He also gives us a different option with his left-footed kicking game, which is an advantage.

“He has a very good all-round skill-set and although he relies on his speed off the mark, rather than his brawn, he is also one of the best technical tacklers at the club. For his size, he always puts his body on the line, which is crucial.”

A former Royal Grammar School Worcester student, Arr started his rugby at Worcester in the club’s successful mini/junior set-up.

He won international honours and was a part of the England Under 20s team that achieved the Grand Slam in the Six Nations tournament of 2008.

Worcester-born and bred, the 23-year-old was rewarded for his outstanding form in 2009-10 when he picked up the young player of the year and most improved player awards at the club’s end-of -season dinner.

Twelve months later, he went one better and was named player of the year after his impressive role in winning promotion back to the Aviva Premiership.

Arr added: “I am really pleased to sign the new contract at Warriors and commit myself to the club.

“It’s great to be back playing in the Premiership this season and we have made real progress, particularly in the last few months when we have started to gain the level of results we know we are capable of.

“I have been connected with the club for a long time now, but there is no denying that this is the most exciting period as we look to push up the league table and achieve the ambitions we all share for Warriors.”
