DEPARTING winger Marcel Garvey has been voted Worcester Warriors’ player of the season.

Garvey, who will join French Top 14 side Castres this summer after scoring 46 tries in 125 games for the Sixways club, edged out fellow nominees Sam Betty and Jake Abbott to claim the top prize last night.

Head coach Richard Hill said: “I have been delighted with Marcel during my time at the club and he fully deserves this award for a fantastic final season.

“He has been one of the stand-out performers in the squad who was consistently impressive week in and week out for us. He has given his all every time he has pulled on the jersey.

“He remains one of the best wingers in the country in my eyes and leaves some big shoes to fill.”

The players’ player of the year award went to back row Sam Betty following a fine debut season, ahead of centre Dale Rasmussen and Garvey.

England Under 20s back row Matt Kvesic was named young player of the year for the second successive season, beating prop James Currie.

The Warrior of the Year accolade, given to the staff member who has gained most respect for their conduct on and off the field, was claimed by James Percival with Betty and Abbott also nominated.

Scrum-half Shaun Perry won the community award for his work in the city.

Fly-half Andy Goode and full-back Errie Claassens were also nominated.
